In designing kitchens, I believe in the adage of form follows function. It is important to keep both in mind with every design. A number of factors came into play with this kitchen design. The family needed to be able to store their children's toys. The husband is also an avid cook and he wanted easy access to his various books. The island storage was the perfect place for keeping the family organized.
They are embracing the idea of a space that’s inviting and durable by choosing leather bench seating or Sunbrella-upholstered benches and opting for freestanding furniture instead of built-in banquettes. I think of it as this: My clients should have the best table at the restaurant in their own home.
Clients are thinking beyond the practical kitchen table that you don’t mind if your kids trash and want a place for family and friends to linger.
Additional drawers in the kitchen results in more accessible storage and organization, which is a top priority for clients to be sure that each and every kitchen item has its place. And once those drawers or cabinets are opened, lights need to turn on automatically to guide the way.
