In the Houston living room shown here, a pair of custom velvet sofas, an extra-large coffee table, floor-to-ceiling drapes and a sizable fiddle leaf fig plant help bring down the scale.
For this new penthouse apartment in Chicago's River North neighborhood, design firm Cari Giannoulias Interiors created a masculine look in the master bedroom, perfect for the home’s bachelor owner, with graphic drapery fabric from Larsen Marlon. A boiled wool rug from Oscar Isberian and grasscloth wall covering from Phillip Jeffries add depth and comfort to the space.
This is definitely not for everyone, but if you’re looking to create a fresh, airy home, consider a concrete floor painted white and sealed. It creates a crisp backdrop that really allows light to bounce around and allows natural elements like verdant plants and natural wood to really show their character.
Blue has a lot going for it. The color can be soothing and serene when presented in a lighter shade (hailed as a near-neutral) or bold and commanding when done up like a male peacock, as shown here. In fact, the zippy blue paint color in this Houston living room is called Peacock Blue.
