In a micro space, a generously sized decorative piece can help distract from the size of the room. Look at the large chandelier and the vibrant picture next to the bed: The eye has so much to look at that it barely registers the room’s small dimensions.
As for lighting, I prefer warm, non-directional dimmable light such as cove light or from under a nightstand, and I hide outlets so the design isn't interrupted. I use artwork as an accessory to complement the overall design. And accessories like a carafe, a tray for jewelry, and books can make it feel more personal.
This finished bedroom, with planning and execution, took four months. The nightstands were custom, the wallpaper handmade, the bedframe, furniture, rugs, lighting and accessories took months to arrive from our vendors. Then we had to consider the electrical work, painting, application of the wallcovering, and the installation of the furniture. The takeaway is that a well-done room takes time, planning and patience, but the outcome is worth waiting for.
Instead of using bedside table lamps, hang pendant lights from the ceiling. This creates a vertical line upward and opens the space below, making the room feel lighter, uncluttered and even a bit more styled.
