Double islands are truly the new breakfast table because they create a ton of extra surface space within the kitchen and offer an amazing flow for entertaining. One way we keep the kitchen from feeling repetitive is by playing with the cabinet finishes and using dual tones for fresh contrast.
Smaller spaces are being opened up to incorporate broader entertainment functions. Often we are removing walls between kitchen and dining rooms and including an open island or peninsula to connect the two. This enables us to expand the size and functionality of kitchen and dining areas and allows these spaces to serve several purposes.
