White reflects maximum light, making any space look bright and welcoming. Even the tiniest, most claustrophobia-inducing rooms will seem more spacious with white walls, ceiling and bedding.
Drapes and shades are a fundamental element to make a space feel warm, and I also like to use rugs to make the space feel softer. There should always be an inviting area to sit, read, and relax.
As for lighting, I prefer warm, non-directional dimmable light such as cove light or from under a nightstand, and I hide outlets so the design isn't interrupted. I use artwork as an accessory to complement the overall design. And accessories like a carafe, a tray for jewelry, and books can make it feel more personal.
Similarly, window drapery can be hung from the ceiling instead of on the wall just above the window. Hardware for most window treatments is designed to be flexible. So try turning the bracket up and installing it on the ceiling. The length and vertical lines of the drape will make the ceiling feel higher and the room larger.
