New York designer Miles Redd recast the interiors of a Texas family’s vacation house at the Lyford Cay club in the Bahamas. The living room walls and ceiling are covered in a China Seas fabric, with curtains to match. The sofa is by Oscar de la Renta Home for Century Furniture, and the antique slipper chair is clad in a blue Global Leathers hide.
In a house by Emily Summers Design Assoc. in the California desert, a vintage chair from Trina Turk Residential in Palm Springs sits in the master bath; the wall covering is by Élitis.
We upgraded all of the systems, and I convinced the owners to open several of the doorways, but it was essentially a renovation within the footprint. There was a question of whether or not to paint over the dark woodwork, so we had a restoration specialist take a look. He was fine with repainting most of it, but in the small back stairwell, he discovered a banister and handrail that are even older than this almost 300-year-old house. He told us flat out we could not paint them.
