In this Toronto living room, a couple of elements are at play. A slim fireplace allows a large TV to sit above it without too much neck strain by viewers watching from the sofas or chairs. Also, a dark (possibly marble) surround keeps the TV from creating too much of a black-box effect in the space.
In the living room of this contemporary vacation home in Park City, Utah, designer Susan Brunstrum of Sweet Peas Design placed the color blocked panel drapery above the window framework to draw attention up to the vaulted ceiling, increasing the sense of space.
